Taming the Chaos of Dementia : A Caregiver’s Guide to Interventions That Make a Difference   by Barbara J. Huelat and Sharon T. Pochron, PhD ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I can’t even begin to count the number of acquaintances where someone is suddenly diagnosed with dementia. It seems to have taken on plague proportions as it sweeps through my peers, seemingly out of nowhere. This book is timely, for the afflicted and the care giver. One thing that sticks out to me is the advice that care givers need to put on their own oxygen masks first! A wise forewarning. If the caregiver crumbles, their loved one is unable to be supported. So many sensible talking points to help the dementia sufferer continue to feel fulfilled and worthwhile  An excellent read that helps one to look for positive situations to channel responses to this disease. The Fast800 Diet: Discover the Ideal Fasting Formula to Shed Pounds, Fight Disease, and Boost Your Overall Health   by Dr. Michael Mosley           A combination of ideas put forward about food, exercise and losing weight by Mosley are ringing bells with me. Particulars he's mentioning are factors my doctor has been raising with me. Although my need is more to do with excess weight putting pressure on my arthritic knees. The book is pithy, easy to read, not too complicated in its explanations, fairly straightforward and most importantly, held my interest. The things that struck me most included: that Mosley gives "a number of options so you can tailor the program to your needs, goals and motivation...based on 800-calorie fast days—it’s high enough to be manageable and sustainable but low enough to trigger a range of desirable metabolic changes." So changing metabolism gets a tick and there are Options available for the way you might approach the pr...

Mediterranean Diet explained.

The Easy Mediterranean Diet Meal Plan by Susan Zogheib     My doctor has said I must loose weight. So after having flirted around the "doing of" for some moons, and putting my repeat doctor's visit back by a month when I realized I'd procrastinated for far too long, I knuckled down to just getting on with it. I've flirted with 5:2, with Intermittent Fasting and lastly this, the Mediterranean diet. "What a timely opportunity," I thought when this book came to my attention. The book does explain exactly and succinctly what the Mediterranean Diet is. It has a good list of meals, weekly menu plans, what to buy etc. Great, especially for those of us who just want the best help with the least amount of list making. It gives calories for all meals, which actually suits the way I work. So that was an important plus. (A couple of problems though, I cannot with a clear conscience use almond milk due to the amount of water it takes to produce one gallon,...
