The Girl’s Last Cry (Detective Lexi Bennett # 2) by Alison Belsham

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Complex police procedural. Three teenagers have committed suicide. Detective Inspector Lexie Bennett is not convinced. Is someone manipulating/assisting desperate young people to take their own lives?

Lexie is caught up in the chase that leads from a girl who falls or jumps from a tower to the Dark Web. Three suicides and three notes. No phones! It becomes a race against time to identify the protagonist. The search comes too close to home and very personal for Lexie

A page turner!

Murder in the Cloister ( Christine de Pizan Mystery #4)   by Tania Bayard             ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Murder and more in an ancient French priory near Paris. A Religious House supported by the King of France. An interesting medieval mystery read in terms of the history of the times and the widespread beliefs about sorcery. Christine de Pizan is tasked by King Charles VI, upon the request of the Dominican Prioress, to journey to the Royal Priory of Saint-Louis at Poissy, ostensibly to to copy an important manuscript and  visit her daughter who has taken orders there.  Christine knows there's more to the matter. The Priory has no need of her expertise, having plenty in house. She will be accompanied by Brother Michel from the Abbey of Saint-Denis and Henri de Picart.  Christine is warned by a member of Queen Isabeau's retinue that, ‘Something is wrong at Poissy, and they’re willing to do what the prioress asks because they’re concerned for t...

Dragons & Dirigibles (The Gaslight Chronicles #7)  by Cindy Spencer Pape The stories surrounding the marvellously rich group of people we know from the Gaslight Chronicles continue to be mined. Melody McKay an airship engineer, pilot and member of the Order of the Round Table, is testing her dirigible's new engine design over the Devonshire coast when either the boiler or generator inexplicably explodes. She crashes into the parklands in front of Black Heath Manor.  Fortunately the damage to her is minor, bruises and a sprained ankle. Her Scottish deerhound Birch (who has his own set of specially designed goggles--how cute and practical!) is fine too. Captain Victor Arrington, the current Earl of Blackwell has returned from his first love, the sea, to take up the lordly reins and care for his niece Emma when his brother, the late Earl, and his sister-in-law are killed in an accident. He and Barnaby, his trusty ex shipmate now butler, are scouring the rocks looking ...

An Officer and a Gentleman's Daughte r  by Douglas Day Stewart   ⭐️⭐️ So I wanted to love this but it really stretched my sympathy. Mind you I’m not sure what my expectations were but this was not it. Zack Mayo and his daughter Shannon have had a yawning void between them for years. Eons ago Zack, hero fighter pilot, was asked by the President to resume his role with his fighter squadron in the Middle East, leaving his daughter mourning the death of her mother, floundering with her own and her father’s substance abuse. This just doesn’t cut it. Neither does referring to her father as royalty. Nope I’m not buying it. That’s the background. Fast forward a few years and that daughter is accepted into Officer Candidate School like her dad before her. Shannon is an overachiever on steroids (figure of speech!) All to buy her father’s approval and bolster her own feeling of self worth. The angst and emotions are palpable but I just felt deliberately squeezed. This wasn’t for me. Too ...
