Well this was a five star read! A delightful spinster, Honorable Eleanor Kent, turned privateer and providing goods for the top echelons of town, a gifted interior designer and daughter of a viscount. Intelligent, charming, shrewd and determined evidenced by the way she’s turned the family’s flagging fortunes around and gained the friendship of Prinny, the Prince Regent. Ah yes! By evading taxes she’s actually saved the country from the worst of Prinnys expenses. A tortuous argument I know.
And who’s the prime villain. Why the gorgeous rake who finds himself in over his head as heart and duty conflict. The Duke of Danby has undertaken to be the leader of the Prime Minister's tax evasion (anti smuggling) task force. Of course he and the delectable Elinor will clash, in more ways than one. A super twist of various tropes by Jarecki. I’m indeed five star charmed!

Women in war—Internment by the Japanese 1942-45.

Sisters Under the Rising Sun  by Heather Morris    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A fitting tribute to the women interred by the Japanese in Indonesia and Malaya during 1942 until liberation in 1945. Amongst the internees are a group of Australian Army nurses who were not given recognition by the Japanese as members of the armed forces and therefore not prisoners of war according to the Conventions of war.  Sister Vivian Bullwinkle is the only survivor of the massacre of a group of soldiers and nurses on Radji Beach, Bangka Island near Sumatra  in 1942, after the sinking of  HMS Vyner Brooke. There are a number of civilian prisoners in the camps like Norah Chambers and her sister Ena.  Combined, the story of these women interred under terrible conditions, their struggles and achievements are monumental.  Their gifts to their fellows beyond speech. A tale of betrayal, love, revenge and truth in the highlands of 1547, deftly told. Lady Brighe MacDonald, sister to James “the Devil” MacDonald, is tired of not having any freedom outside of her brother’s keep. Her opportunity comes during the celebration of the Lughnasadh Harvest Festival, a time when the clans gather for trade, games and festivities.  What Brighe doesn’t realize is that she’s catapulting herself right into the pathway of her brother’s mortal enemy, Tormund MacLeod. Tormund is focusing on vengeance for his brother’s death.
