Groan! This was so good! I realize I’m now going to have to read the first in the series. That’s what the groan is for because my TBR list is out of control and adding one more just might tip it, and me, over the edge.

Talking of which, this an edgy read complete with post war gangsters, corruption, and questions left over after field operations during WWII didn’t go as planned.

Set in the Los Angeles in 1948 with flashbacks to Europe in the latter days of WWII, aeronautics heiress Evelyn Bishop and her fiancé Nick Gallagher (both former undercover operatives of OSS) find themselves contending with the past as it impacts the present. Berlin has been blockaded by the Soviets, the airlift is struggling, and General Henry Gibson, Evelyn’s commanding officer during her Service days is asking for her. 

A genuinely immersive read!

Paladin by Sally Slater Great new female hero. Slater's writing reminds me a tad of Sarah J. Maas with a dash of Tamora Pierce. A tried and true theme with a difference. From the very beginning I was caught up in the manoeuvre that Cam had instigated against  Eleanor using her sister Charlotte. The lengths he is prepared to go to punish her are puzzling. What he punishing her for is even more so. Is it just because she appears cold and unfeeling? Lady Frost is the name Eleanor has been given. Bets are placed on her at White's. She has her own page! The Mad Herringtons (Classic Regency Romances) by Jane Myers Perrine  An amusing romp. I sometimes wondered if had fallen into an Oscar Wilde or Noel Coward play. My heart quite goes out to Aphrodite as she tries to control her more passionate wild sisters and brothers. After all she is the 'sensible' one (after all she is reading Sense and Sensibility). Almost engaged and off to a House Party to meet her fiancé's mother, some of her siblings accompany her. Those names the Herrington children all have! Quite diverting! Greek gods and goddesses and muses. As is the reason why the Marchioness named her offspring thus. Anyway as we follow some of the Herrington's antics we behold Terpsichore crossed in love, Athena a baggage if ever there was one (sort of Lydia Bennett but obsessed with kissing and practising on footmen and stablehands), and Aphrodite herself determined to be the 'proper' Herrington.
